Staff Content Designer


The Staff Content Designer helps shape the vision and voice of Workiva’s platform. This person is a strategic thinker with in-depth knowledge of content strategy and a proven understanding of how content design influences the overall user experience. This person is skilled at aligning and partnering with stakeholders from User Experience, Product, Support, Marketing, and other SMEs to create and shape the strategy for written technical content for Workiva products and solutions, including help articles, product copy, digital adoption assets, and other support content.

What You’ll Do

Strategy & Planning

  • Helps ensure the success of a rapidly growing user base
  • Responsible for managing the content lifecycle for multiple products and solutions, while ensuring consistency and clarity across all classes of content
  • Collaborate with product managers, user experience designers, and subject matter experts to create a world-class user experience
  • Help develop and support content strategy for the product

Content Production

  • Develop content to increase users’ ability with and utilization of products and features
  • Define and document platform-wide content standards and naming conventions
  • Follow audience-centered and iterative methods to understand content needs
  • Anticipates and plans for future content needs for large projects based on company priorities
  • Deliver outstanding documentation, user assistance, and product copy
  • Assist internal teams with content and writing requests as needed

Leadership

  • Responsible for the UX content outcomes across a broad area of the application
  • Innovate, coordinate, and iterate on team processes and approaches to optimize quality and productivity
  • Build content and writing skills of other content producers by offering critical feedback and organizing formal and informal development opportunities
  • Participates in recruiting, hiring, and developing team members either as a formal manager or informal mentor

What You’ll Need

Minimum Qualifications

  •  6+ Years in software technical writing or product documentation
  • Experience with web or software applications and creating technical content for end users
  • Familiarity with Lean UX/Agile environment
  • BA/BS in Technical Communication, English, Digital Media, Human-Computer Interaction, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Portfolio or samples of previous work is required

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with strong propensity for action, results and continuous improvement
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple processes, programs, and procedures simultaneously
  • Ability to negotiate, collaborate, and influence involved stakeholders
  • Ability to provide mentorship, vision, and skill leadership to other writers
  • Uncanny attention to detail and customer focus
  • Master’s degree preferred

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

  • Up to 10% travel
  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office
