We are looking to fill two positions in this new role performing important technical reviews of distributed generation interconnection applications. The Distributed Generation Specialist Team will work to ensure that applications meet relevant technical and safety requirements. We are looking for this team to improve the review process through identifying opportunities to increase consistency and efficiency and bring new ideas in how we perform our work. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with internal and external customers, holding applicants accountable, and evolving along with the Distributed Generation market and industry.

This position offers a blend of working from home and in the Cedar Rapids, Ames, Marshalltown or Dubuque office on average 2-3 days per week. The successful candidate must reside in either Iowa or Wisconsin.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for technical evaluations associated with interconnection applications; assessing and addressing adverse system impacts and ensuring regulatory compliance. Evaluations include but are not limited to equipment descriptions, one-line drawings, and plot plans.

Coordinate and, at times, attend witness tests for Distributed Generation installations to ensure operating requirements are met

Maintain good working relationships installers or developers of distributed energy resources. Provide guidance on company procedures, service rules, code requirements, metering requirements, agreements. Handle routine to complex inquiries. Keep current with understanding and knowledge of company procedures.

Maintain good working relationships with system engineers who oversee the day-to-day operations and long-range plans for the distribution system. Over time become subject matter expert in distributed energy interconnect process and issues or hurdles that need to be addressed, including inefficiencies in internal processes.

Assist with the development and oversight of departmental process and procedures. Assist with the training of new staff.

Provide input into development of data analysis, including but not limited to development of dashboards.

Provide input into development and maintenance of our internal application system, Power Clerk.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related area is preferred

2 years of professional technical experience

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must be willing to travel occasionally, with most travel being a single day within the state.

Travel can include occasional overnight stays.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with an interconnection platform such as Power Clerk

Experience reading and interpreting one-line diagrams

Experience with distributed generation (solar, wind, battery) design and installation
