SAFI-Tech’s no-heat solder technology is revolutionizing electronics manufacturing and
enabling the next generation of electronics design. We utilize principles of supercooling to apply
high temperatures alloys to flexible miniaturized electronics at ambient temperatures. SAFI-
Tech is a venture backed startup spun out of Iowa State University, the birthplace of SAC305 –
the standard alloy in electronics manufacturing today. Our team of talented scientists and
business builders is pioneering the next generation of solder technology and is looking for a
motivated and high achieving research scientist to join our quickly expanding lab.

Job Description
We are looking for an exceptional Research Scientist to join us as we
1. Utilize SAFI-Tech technology to make supercooled liquid particles from metal alloys
2. Identify, assemble, and implement equipment and techniques to achieve metal products
with customer-directed properties
3. Analyze metal particle composition, thermal properties, shape, size, purity, and yield
4. Produce materials to customer specifications for use in electronic devices
5. Develop application methods for supercooled liquid metal particles
6. Manage laboratory, chemical inventory, and project data

Duties and responsibilities:
1. Collaborate directly with CTO on high impact activities
2. Follow and improve existing SOPs. Leverage technical expertise to establish SOPs for
new procedures Produce written and verbal research updates
3. Operate, troubleshoot and maintain lab instruments and equipment
4. Occasionally oversee technicians and interns as they assist in lab activities
5. Occasional travel to customers, suppliers, conferences, etc. may be required

1. PhD in materials science or chemical engineering or equivalent
2. 0-3 years’ experience
3. Must have a strong understanding of materials thermodynamics and a record of
materials development experience
4. Experienced in surface science, organic chemistry, DSC, SEM, EDS, microscopy, image
5. Preferred experience in reactor design, DLS, and/or metallurgy
6. High degree of self-motivation and able to work with minimal supervision
7. Commitment to working with confidential information
8. Excellent communication skills
