Quality Control and Lab Technician


Position summary & purpose:

Organize, develop and oversee training, data collection/presentation of all quality control metrics, including compression testing, SGN testing, particle size analysis, monthly QC 3rd party testing, and dust control. Work with plant personnel to ensure accurate and timely collection of QC data, alerting appropriate managers/leads to QC issues. Aid in evaluating and troubleshooting the pelletizing process via experimentation/variable identification to improve product quality. Oversee and execute laboratory testing for internal and competitive products and manage associated databases and dissemination of tabular and graphed information.

Requirements

Frequent travel to plants in Fort Dodge and Gilmore City will be required.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

· Comply with all health and safety practices and procedures

· Comply with standard operating procedures and reporting/recording requirements

· Participate in training as provided and required by company directives

· Review, develop and execute training on various quality control metrics

· Collect, organize, analyze and report out on quality control data collected at the manufacturing facilities

· Improve data collection and organization at plant level

· Alert appropriate personnel to quality control problems and aid in troubleshooting efforts to correct them

· Work with plant operators and managers to identify and correct variables that lead to quality control problems

· Help design and lead experiments to identify, evaluate and discover variables that impact the quality of pellets produced

· Serve as lead laboratory technician at Ames office

· Help oversee, execute and oversee various laboratory projects to aid in sales & marketing efforts

Education and Experience:

· College degree (preferably in a science-related field)

· Experience in collecting, organizing and displaying large databases (e.g. MS Excel)

· Experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment preferred

· Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
