Job Summary

1 – First Shift

The Project Engineer – Research and Development applies in-depth knowledge, engineering best practices and current research to lead focused agile workgroups to investigate and de-risk technologies utilized for high complexity machine control systems. This position leads projects that provide functional and quality data from the application, integration, and testing of complex mobile equipment and automation systems to support new product and continuous improvement development teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

– Lead through the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors. Manage assigned team members in performance of their duties. Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the organization’s business strategies and objectives and ensure department is properly serving its internal and external customers and meeting defined expectations.

– Provide technical leadership responsibility for high-complexity technology investigative projects, including project management, task management, and mentoring of less-experienced engineers.  May include direct reports.

– Define, develop and lead multiple technology and research projects from initial technology investigations through concept modeling and knowledge transfer to development teams, including follow-up on technical viability.

– Collect, synthesize, and apply in-depth subject matter and current research data to investigate and communicate capability, constraints, and risk associated with applying new technologies to Vermeer new product developments.

Education and/or Experience

– Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in the field of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Machine Control with a minimum of 5 years related experience.

– Or other 4-year college degree with a minimum of 9 years related experience.

Computer Skills

– Proficient in describing control system requirements using a variety of methods and tools, including visual modeling tools, control diagrams, schematics, C or other embedded programming languages, and/or SolidWorks.

– Proficient (Leading) in Project Management and presentation software tools use for management and communications of project performance and data.

Other Skills and Abilities

– Demonstration of good project management skills including good verbal and written communication skills.

– Experience with navigational sensors including GPS, accelerometers, magnetometer, gyroscopes and fusion algorithms.

– Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.

– Ability to provide accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.

– Ability to effectively manage project development and engineering teams to complete projects on time and within budget.

– Familiarity with perception sensors including, LIDAR, Cameras, and RADAR.
