- Location: Cedar Rapids, Ames or Centerville, IA (Hybrid)
- Start Date: Monday, May 20th, 2024
This is a hybrid-remote position reporting to an Alliant Energy office in either Cedar Rapids, IA; Ames, IA; or Centerville, IA.
What you will do
As a Planning Engineer Intern you’ll gain an understanding of the electricity industry. You’ll work with a host planning engineer, the broader team and collaborate with other interns. Some projects you’ll complete include:
- Perform electric distribution system studies
- Perform studies on behalf of planning engineers within the department
- Conduct power flow studies for Long Range Planning (LRP) or Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnections
- Use Synergi Electric application to create a model for analysis and identification of system violations and solutions

Education Requirements
- We are looking for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Currently holding a GPA of 2.75 or higher
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite
- An active interest, fresh ideas and a desire to learn about the utility industry
- Capable of working independently
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
