The Opportunity

Ag Leader is looking for a Controls Engineer (located in Ames, IA) with the ability to help us create innovative new products for the agriculture industry. You will work on a cross-functional team to develop solutions that solve the problems that our customers face. These solutions will require high precision and reliability so that farmers can be confident that their crops will reach their full potential.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work in a cross-functional team of engineers in an Agile development methodology
  • Develop advanced closed-loop control systems for innovative hydraulic and electromechanical agricultural products
  • Assist teams with the implementation of control algorithms in embedded software applications
  • Optimize the performance of existing systems and control methods
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with control systems on agriculture equipment
  • Act as a technical adviser with internal groups in the organization on control systems
  • Travel is less than 10%
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualification Required

  • MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or another related degree
  • Upper-Level coursework in advanced control engineering
  • At least 1 year of real-world experience with the design and implementation of closed-loop control systems in agriculture, off-highway, or similar equipment
  • Strong demonstrated skill in advanced control system software development

Specific Skill Requirements

  • Model-based control design using Matlab/Simulink
  • Design, analysis, and testing of hydraulic control systems
  • Design, analysis, and hands-on testing of agriculture electromechanical control systems
  • Familiarity with Kalman filtering techniques and applications
  • Strong familiarity with agriculture machinery and practices
  • Have knowledge of adaptive control systems
  • Understand machine learning theory and applications
  • Experience with C++ and Python preferred
