Summer 2024 Bioinformatics Intern


POSITION OVERVIEW:

Genvax Technologies seeks a Bioinformatics Intern to help perform directed research and assist in vaccine development. Your project will be to assist in the development of bioinformatic or machine learning tools to advance vaccine design and management of infectious disease data. This is a unique opportunity to work in the early stages of a startup company. This is a paid internship and runs from May 20th to August 9th (dates flexible) with potential to stay on through the school year or for post-graduation employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Follow existing SOPs, processes, procedures, and systems to independently conduct experiments
  • Assist scientists with other projects as necessary
  • Maintain detailed experimental records, reports, and inventories in electronic lab notebooks
  • Deliver results in fast changing business and regulatory environments
  • Contribute to product, process, or other related improvements
  • Perform investigations on product and process defects to identify root cause and implement corrective/preventative action (CAPA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Must be attending an Iowa college or university, or have graduated from an Iowa high school and attend a college or university outside of Iowa
  • Preference will be given to students within 1-2 years of graduation
  • Bioinformatics or coding experience is preferred
  • Experience with machine learning is a plus
  • High attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skill sets quickly
  • Experience managing independent projects
  • Basic computer skills required
