General Description:
The Bin Site Operator will be responsible for receiving and loading out of grain at Summit’s grain storage facilities and general care of those sites. This position will spend the majority of their time either working on-site at one of the bin site locations or operating a semi transporting grain. When day-to-day operations do not call for grain movement/monitoring this position will be involved with general row crop operations associated with planting, protecting, and harvesting the crop.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
• Operate grain handling equipment
• Assure proper grain storage and condition
• Maintain communication with all employees regarding grain quality and inventory
• Communicate daily with truck drivers on grain loading/unloading plans
• Responsible for housekeeping and cleaning duties on grain facilities
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on grain handling/storage equipment
• Operate grain dryers to condition crop following manufactures, company, and industry practices
• Blend grain for loadout to obtain grade and price, while minimizing discounts
• Operation of semi tractor and trailer to transport commodities and/or agricultural inputs
• Operation of late model agricultural equipment to assist in production
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to calculate figures, percentages, utilize basic concepts of algebra to recognize discrepancies
• Other duties as assigned by Manager
Work Environment:
• This position will require tasks to be performed in outside weather conditions with the occasional exposure to corn/bean debris and dust within a bin.
Physicality Requirements:
• This position will require the repetition movements such as bending, lifting, reaching and standing on hard services for extend periods of time and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks
• Required to stand; walk; sit; have use of both hands to utilize tools and controls along with the ability to climb stairs
• Ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
• Ability to drive a vehicle for prolonged period of time
Position Type:
• This position is full time that will typically work 45 hours per week Monday-Friday with the availability to work weekends during Spring and Falls seasons while being available occasionally for non season weekend work and staffing challenges.
Education/Experience:
• A minimum of one year working with grain storage facilities and row crop production
• General experience with repair and maintenance of mechanical systems
• Ability to be a self-starter with strong decision making and problem solving skills
• Ability to outline instructions based on information received from written, oral and/or diagrams
• Class A CDL preferred, but not required
