Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a qualified candidate for a software technical intern (Summer 2019) in our Commercial Avionics Flight Management department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa focused on graphical visualizations of flight plans and runway alerting.

This role is focused on Collins SEPP (Summer Engineering Project Program) that is specifically created to start and finish over the course of the summer. You’ll be paired with peer students and supported by a number of our more experienced engineers.

Job Responsibilities

This position involves the development and documentation of an application that will allow the visualization of flight plans and related information.  Specific software functional areas include flight planning, geographic information systems, database management and data visualization.  Selected candidate may perform software engineering tasks including requirements analysis, design, code, test and software integration. Ideal candidate should have good communication skills, the ability to learn new concepts quickly and effectively, and possess good interpersonal and team skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Classroom experience with Python, C, C++ or other high-order language.
  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) disciplineKey skills for success:
  • Time management skills – ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work
  • Self-Motivate – take personal ownership of tasks and responsibilities and ask good questions
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Familiarity with geographic information systems.
