Production Leader (1900825) – Ames, IA
Where the Chemistry Happens
We are seeking a professional like you to support the day to day production operations at our Ames, IA facility. At the Ames, IA facility we mix and package colorants and coatings for the seed, turf, and ornamental markets. Your strong leadership skills and engineering expertise are needed to provide technical support, safety guidance, employee development, and training Production Operators. You will play an important role in driving safety, quality, and productivity across the site. Optimizing fixed and variable unit costs, executing capital projects, implementing LEAN / 5S activities and the ability to work closely with other support groups like Maintenance and Quality are also important for this position.
Qualifications – BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success

Leveraging your Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering preferred), and your operations / production experience in a chemical or similar manufacturing environment, you will ensure that the production plan is executed safely, with high emphasis on quality and teamwork. Relying on your supervisory experience, you will effectively lead and direct daily work activities for Production Operators involved in mixing and packaging activities. Additionally, you will establish and maintain target agreements and development plans to ensure consistent development of site personnel over time and maintain headcount by hiring full time and contract personnel as needed. Aiming to increase efficiency, reduce cycle time, and continuously improve housekeeping, you will design and execute LEAN / 5S / continuous improvement projects. Using your project management and engineering education, you will lead the design, build and execution of projects in your department. Your detailed understanding of equipment and overall plant manufacturing processes and operational procedures will be essential as you provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Production team. Your strong organizational and analytical skills will be a valued asset as you provide day-to-day Production support through management of personnel, monitoring schedule attainment, coordinating maintenance activities, leading quality initiatives and performing activities that enhance safety at the site. As a strong communicator, you will facilitate daily team meetings and be an ongoing contributor to the weekly Production team meeting. You will also serve as a key point of communication for the support departments and coordinate maintenance, safety and quality activities within the department.
