McFarland Clinic has an opening for an energetic Ophthalmic assistant for its Ames office. The candidate is expected to be a team player, willing to learn basic ophthalmic techniques as well as the working of advanced ophthalmic equipment.
Responsibilities include: Prepares patients for exams or treatments. Takes visual acuity, ocular tonometry, basic ocular motility. Takes brief history and other medical information needed. Educate patients and perform ancillary tests, OCT, fundus photos and pachymetry. Sets up and assists with minor surgery and laser surgery.
- High School Diploma, GED or HiSET
- Graduate from an accredited program for certified Ophthalmic Assistants or related fields is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support certification for health care providers
Days: Monday – Friday. Monday evening rotation every 4 weeks.
Hours: Monday 8 AM – noon. Tues-Fri 8AM – 5 PM One Monday evening every 4 weeks – 3 PM – 7:00 PM
- Ophthalmic experience preferred/ on the job training available.
- Excellent customer service skills and willing to be able to multi-task.
- Keyboard and computer experience.
- One year of work experience in medical office setting preferred.
