Job Description

Our Manufacturing Operations teams are the people that make our products. We work in the manufacturing plants with a “Safety First, Quality Always” mindset striving for continuous improvement. We work in the local plant connected to our global manufacturing network to ensure the highest quality of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.

Located in the renowned Iowa State University Research Park, our Animal Health facility in Ames, Iowa addresses the threat of new and evolving diseases and pathogens that endanger the Livestock and Companion Animal population. We are seeking an Operations Manager in Ames to manage a team of skilled technicians responsible for the formulation, filling and warehouse operations in accordance with approved procedures. The Operations Manager will plan, coordinate, manage activities, and supervise employees to ensure that products are manufactured in accordance with appropriate regulatory requirements in a manner that meets the needs of the Business.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct the daily activities of a Production Team to include staffing, training, developing, and managing annual performance reviews.
  • Schedule and monitor manufacturing activities, providing timely feedback to management and production on issues impacting inventory and schedule adherence.
  • Ensure compliance with Regulatory and company policies and practices with regard to facilities, management, documentation, and procedures directly associated with manufacturing USDA licensed and unlicensed vaccine products.
  • Assist in the coordination of technology transfers between R&D and Manufacturing and between Manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure a safe work environment for employees to include the completion of required training, the proper maintenance of manufacturing equipment and the compliant performance of daily activities.
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects as assigned.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least four (4) years of relevant experience in manufacturing or the military OR
  • High School Diploma/GED with at least six (6) years of relevant experience in manufacturing or military service

Required Experience and Skills:

  • A Record of safely and effectively leading teams in the manufacture of high-quality product(s)
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated use of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles
  • Consistent demonstration of strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, teamwork, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter desire to excel personally and ability to motivate direct reports and peers to excel
  • Ability to lead and motivate technical colleagues
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Effective computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • A degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related Science is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and/or production line applications, logistics and planning
  • Analytical skills to include Problem Analysis, Problem Solving, Root Cause Investigation/ Verification and Critical Thinking
  • LEAN and/or Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of maintenance strategy and/or systems
  • Demonstrated use of change control systems.
