The ISU Research Park co-hosted this week’s See Yourself in Ames event with the Ames Chamber, the Cultivation Corridor and the Greater Des Moines Partnership. The event is a part of a series that brings together student interns in the Ames and Greater Des Moines area. Our grill-out concluded the second of four events and allowed students to network with various business professionals on a personal level.
Set up began around 1:30 p.m. with our Core Facility interns hard at work. Cocktail tables, banners, food and a sound system were all set up in preparation for the big event.
President Wendy Wintersteen kicked off the Ames Chamber of Commerce and Ames Economic Development Commission combined board meetings before heading straight out the doors to the atrium where the See Yourself in Ames event was held.
Students began arriving at 4:45 p.m. and were able to meet many people and gain valuable networking connections while snacking on some delicious Iowa Pork burgers with a variation of sides donated by Hy-vee.
While munching and mingling, local band Brad and Kate quickly became a crowd pleaser and had guests swaying throughout the building.
After food and chatting, guest speaker and local Iowan Adam Carroll got up to speak to our young professionals, an audience of around 150 students, about being money savvy. Many students remember him from one of last summer’s events but were not disappointed as Carroll kept the information new, fresh and witty.
Needless to stay, all in attendance walked away with invaluable advice and new connections. We were happy to host and look forward to the next event, which will take place at Prairie Moon Winery on July 10!
