AMES, Iowa – America’s SBDC Iowa (SBDC) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2018 special entrepreneur awards. Doreen Roy, Owner, The Wholesome Basket, Gypsi, and Red Screen Door, Burlington, is the 2018 Deb Dalziel Woman Entrepreneurial Award winner. Brad and Angie Barber, Owners, Cabin Coffee, Clear Lake, are the 2018 Neal Smith Entrepreneurs of the Year Award winners.
Doreen Roy worked with the Southeastern SBDC in Burlington. Janine Clover, regional director of the Southeastern SBDC in Burlington, nominated Doreen for the Deb Dalziel Award because “Doreen is so passionate about helping, nurturing, and bettering downtown Burlington so that other business owners, visitors, and the entire community can enjoy all that downtown Burlington has to offer. She is a positive role model, continually seeking ways to improve her own business and the entire downtown, and is very deserving of this award.”
Brad and Angie Barber worked with the North Iowa Area SBDC and NIACC Pappajohn Center in Mason City. Brook Boehmler, regional director of the North Iowa Area SBDC in Mason City, nominated Cabin Coffee for the Neal Smith Award, stating, “Brad and Angie Barber are an example of what makes doing business in Iowa so great. Growing our entrepreneur community is just as important to them as it is to America’s SBDC and the Pappajohn Center. Brad and Angie put their community and customers first, and growth follows. We could not be more proud of this North Iowa landmark that is taking these principles nationwide.”
Lisa Shimkat, State Director of America’s SBDC Iowa, agrees that Roy and the Barbers deserve these awards saying, “We are honored to have clients who have worked diligently to move their businesses forward while showing a strong commitment to their communities and customers. We are delighted to be able to recognize their hard work and success with these awards.”
The two SBDC special entrepreneur awards will be presented to the winners in a special ceremony on March 8th at the State Capitol in Des Moines.
