Columbus VC firm Drive Capital is exposed to Iowa

​The ISU Research Park hosted Drive Capital—a Columbus-based Venture Capital firm—on Tuesday in an effort to expose venture capital firms from outside of Iowa, to what’s happening inside the state.

Drive Capital is the largest venture capital firm in the Midwest and focuses on investing in Midwest startups. It launched a $250 million fund in 2014 and a $300 million fund in 2016. The meet and greet was to connect local community leaders and entrepreneurs in the startup community who are actively raising capital, with Drive Capital.

​On​ ​September​ ​19,​ ​2017,​ ​KinoSol​ ​SBC,​ ​a​ ​Minnesota Specific​ ​Benefit​ ​Corporation,​ ​with​ ​an​ ​Ames,​ ​Iowa​ ​office,​ ​will​ ​be​ ​competing​ ​in​ ​the​ ​finals​ ​in​ ​the student​ ​division​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Minnesota​ ​Cup.

The​ ​Minnesota​ ​Cup​ ​is​ ​the​ ​largest​ ​statewide​ ​startup​ ​competition​ ​in​ ​the​ ​United​ ​States.​ ​This competition​ ​has​ ​been​ ​held​ ​for​ ​the​ ​past​ ​thirteen​ ​years,​ ​with​ ​a​ ​primary​ ​goal​ ​of​ ​connecting​ ​fellow entrepreneurs.

​Iowa State University has been selected as one of the newest National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (I-Corps) sites, a distinction that enhances the university‘s reputation as a leader in creating innovative solutions to address societal problems.

I-Corps sites act as a training ground for faculty, postdoctoral and graduate students to transition their ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace. Researchers will learn how to increase the impact of their research by exploring the commercial potential of their research and technology. In addition, the program will strengthen the university’s entrepreneurship programs.
